Feiner Janka’s diploma film, made at MOME, will premiere at one of Europe’s most prestigious festivals. The nearly 10-minute film takes viewers into a magical mushroom world, where a mysterious fire creature tempts the young protagonist into mischief. The boy’s father tries to put a stop to it all, but the surreal journey continues.
Feiner Janka said that her film was created by combining stop-motion and digital drawn animation, a form that allowed her to experiment with new ideas and solutions. The film’s sound design was created by Csaba Kalotás and Bálint Szabó, and it was edited by Judit Czakó. The production managers were Eszter Talabér-Glaser and Kata Lakatos, the line producer was Réka Anna Szakály, and the producers were Zsuzsanna Vincze and József Fülöp.
The Berlinale selection committee highlighted that Feiner Janka’s work is visually suggestive and authentically portrays the clash between childhood desires, dreams, and responsibility. The Generation Kplus section focuses on films that tell stories about their generation in a way that resonates authentically with young audiences.
Fire in My Pocket had its Hungarian premiere at the Friss Kakas Animation Film Days. The Berlinale will take place between February 12 and February 22.
