She began her film directing studies at the University of Theatre and Film Arts in 2019 and later completed them through a joint program of Freeszfe and the Vienna Film Academy (Filmakademie Wien).
Her graduation film, Alba Vulva, premiered at the Sarajevo Film Festival and later won the ARTE Award at the Filmschoolfest Munich.
Her first feature film, Árni, premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2023 and was subsequently invited to the competition programs of several major festivals, including the Hong Kong International Film Festival and the Raindance Film Festival in London.
In addition to the film’s domestic and international acclaim, Dorka Vermes received the Best Director awards from both the Hungarian Film Review (Magyar Filmszemle) and the Hungarian Film Critics’ Awards in 2025.
She is currently working on her second feature film, Places Half Empty, which won the top prize of the Sarajevo Film Festival’s development program in 2025, the Eurimages Co-production Development Award.
