What Are Frames For? – Friss Hús Diary, Day 1

We are past our first professional program, and the audience could already see two exciting screening blocks.

Yesterday, Friss Hús continued in its "normal" groove; the first public screenings took place, and we are also past our first professional program. The latter was titled Brief to Direct, and its topic was the commercial film industry. Nándor Lőrincz (from the creative duo The Soup), Kazi Herpay (Creative Director at Spice Communications), Károly Németh (Marketing Director at Spar Hungary), and László Dreissiger (Head of the 235 production house) sat down for a conversation with Dániel Deák, the founder of Friss Hús. During the discussion, we could follow the birth of a commercial, from the moment the idea originates on the client's side all the way to the point where the audience encounters the final product.

The discussion brought together perspectives that rarely meet so directly in other situations. It became obvious to every listener that we are talking about an extremely complex industry where a wide variety of needs and viewpoints intersect. From autumn onwards, we will delve deeper into this topic within the framework of a six-session training course.

Following this, the focus shifted to the films: once again, Weirdcore ran with great success, showcasing works this year too that push the audience right out of their comfort zone.

As usual, the first Hungarian competition block was met with great interest; by morning, tickets for the premiere screening were almost completely sold out. Five films were included in the selection—all different, yet sharing common thematic points: how the previous generation affects us, how much society shapes us, and how we can become responsible for our own decisions.

Today we are shifting gears: screenings and professional programs await us from early afternoon until late evening. One of the highlights of the festival, Friss Pitch, is coming up, and from our popular blocks, @Midnight and Genre Fever are also on the schedule. Early in the evening, one of our jury members, Benoit Berthe Siward, will talk about film campaign strategies through his own examples.

See you today as well, tickets are available!
