Austrian Focus on Friss Hús

Austrian Focus on Friss Hús

Each year Friss Hús presents a country focus. After France, the Netherlands and Czech Republic, we will showcase the best short films from Austria, as well as presenting talents and the general film culture of the country.

In 2022 we present the short film culture of Austria. Even though Austria and Hungary are neighbouring countries, the collaboration of the filmmakers is very limited and the audience has rare occasions to get to know the fresh talented directors from these countries.

The ambitions of Friss Hús is to change this. We organise a producers’ forum where the two countries' emerging producers can meet and talk about potential collaborations regarding the works of the Friss Pitch Forum.

The highlight of the Austrian Focus will be the screening of the best Austrian short films from the past few years. In the frame of the programme we screen the 2020 Berlinale Shorts participant How To Disappear, which shows the desertation through a video game. Comrade Tito, I inherit by Olga Kosanović – nominated for the Austrian Film Prize – will also be included, as well as the fresh festival darling, the Max Ophüls-winning Lullaby by Magdalena Chmielewska, the disruptive film by Niklas Pollman (Widow & Orphan) and Jannis Lenz’s fictional documentary about a model casting (Even death in my arms is beautiful).

The Austrian Focus is supported by the Austrian Cultural Forum.
